This has had a bit of traction on MMS recently – a FOI request to the Office of National Statistics about the number of people who died JUST from Covid not anything else

I heard it being discussed on ‘More or Less’ on Radio 4 the other day and they were saying, and not without some justification, that it’s a bit dumb to only count these deaths because probably most people who die anytime anywhere have co-morbidities – that is the general state of the population: we’re a sick lot – but that doesn’t equate to dying – usually – so Covid is something that can finish people off who already have underlying health problems.  This was also true of the flu and pneumonia and all sorts of other diseases.  However even if someone had underlying heart issues or diabetes they would have been fine until they got Covid!  I think we need more information on these stats before they are useful to us.
