NNNCo has rolled out a public Internet of Things (IoT) LoRaWAN network across the Gold Coast Local Government Area (LGA), in partnership with the City of Gold Coast. The Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) is leveraging globally-adopted open standard LoRaWAN technology. It enables diversified large-scale IoT applications and transforms how the City delivers services to residents with real-time information and automated services. The IoT network is also available for commercial use by businesses and industry.
Coverage
Umbrella LoRaWAN network coverage is available across the Gold Coast LGA, an area of more than 1,300 square kilometres. The network is is already used extensively by the City of Gold Coast for smart city and smart water use cases.
The IoT LoRaWAN network is now available for commercial use. Business and industry are invited to develop use cases to connect to the network.

Gold Coast Internet of Things Network in Action
The City of Gold Coast has already rolled out several IoT projects, including:
- Smart Water Metering enabling real-time monitoring of water consumption for the top 5,000 commercial customers with Gold Coast Water. Since October 2020, 11,000 water leaks have been detected and 5,500 water meters were rolled out, with the aim to have 170,000 running over LoRaWAN network upon completion.
- Pressure Reduction Valve (PRV) Monitoring IoT devices were installed, allowing real-time monitoring of water pressure streams to households and early detection of pressure issues and replacement before failure.
- Over 80 speeding school signs were installed, improving community safety and awareness and allowing earlier detection and correction of sign faults.
