The founder of Jim’s Mowing has tricked the mainstream media into reporting an April Fool’s joke announcing he will form his own micronation in Australia.
He’s had enough.. of MSM.
JOKE’S ON YOU!
Jim Penman, the founder of Jim’s Mowing, started off April with a bold announcement on his Twitter page.
The owner of Jim’s Group revealed to the world that he has seceded from Victoria to create his own country called “Jimland”.
As such, the mowing mogul said he will now go under the name “His Royal Highness King Jim The First”.
This announcement was picked up by mainstream outlets like The Sydney Morning Herald, which reads:
“Enraged at Victorian Premier Dan Andrews’ lockdowns, Penman is creating his own country and declaring independence from Victoria.”
Most of the piece mocks Penman for his decision, stating he “is going full sovereign citizen”.
Another article was picked up from The Age, who even created a cartoon for this story:
Penman told reporters that: “…It’s like when the United States colonies declared independence from Britain in 1776”.
“If you’ve got unjust and tyrannical government, you can secede.”
But here’s the thing:
It was nothing more than an April Fools joke:
Classic Aussie humour and another L for the mainstream media.
Organisations who run with any headline instead of double-checking any documents or facts.
In their attempts to mock Jim for his decision, he has pointed out the state of mainstream news in 2023.
I’ll probably have to update those article hyperlinks with archive.org ones once they inevitably take the stories down.
What makes this April Fool’s joke even sweeter is the fact that this type of announcement would totally be believable seeing as Jim is a notorious critic of lockdown measures in Victoria.
But, it turns out he was just trolling after all and any donations made were actually going to the Men’s Shed.
PENMAN AND ANDREWS
The trolling comes after the founder was one of Dan Andrews’ harshest critics during the lockdown period and made many appearances on the television to voice his concerns, often mocked by reporters.
At the end of 2020, Jim warned that Dan Andrews would have “blood on his hands” if Victoria’s lockdown was extended any further, and as we know, not only did they continue — but Jim was very right in his predictions.
The extreme lockdown measures throughout 2021 not only led to a mental health crisis amongst Victorians, forcing tens of thousands to leave when they were ‘permitted’ to do so, but was also the catalyst for economic hardships we are facing.
But good old ‘Dan the Man’, who recently took a secretive trip to China, is not concerned with the destruction he left.
Last year, Penman took a legal battle to the Supreme Court to get access to the health advice the Victorian government used to enforce the world’s longest COVID lockdown.
His case came after Victoria’s Civil and Administrative Tribunal knocked back a request to see the documents behind the decision.
We should never forget the denial of data to the public.
Or the mainstream media presstitutes that never dared to question their government and advertising masters.
Part of me wishes that Jim did actually decide to form his own nation.
But I can see why he focused on getting back at the mainstream media with this cheeky April Fool’s joke.
If he was to do break away and form his own “Jimland”, he would join the most extensive list in the world found right here in Australia, as we host roughly 1/3rd of all micronations.
MICRONATIONS
Although Jim’s micronation was an elaborate troll, the concept of micronations is not a made-up one.
Micronations, sometimes also referred to as ‘model countries’ and ‘new country projects’, are generally small, self-proclaimed entities that claim to be independent sovereign states.
They should not be confused with microstates, such as Vatican City, or unrecognised states, which are of more geopolitical significance because they exercise clear control of actual territory.
Micronations are typically those which are not acknowledged as such by any recognised sovereign state, or by any supranational organisation, and generally don’t hold any geopolitical power.
Australia has more micronations than any other place in the world.
Prince Leonard famously created the Principality of Hutt River in a dispute over wheat quotas in the 1970s. It was subsequently dissolved during the pandemic period, but has been highlighted for decades.
Similarly, Prince Paul and Princess Helena founded the Snake Hill Principality (located near Mudgee in New South Wales), following a long-running dispute with their bank.
The Principality of Wy (located in the North Sydney land area) was established after the local council rejected an application to build a driveway.
In Victoria, a long-running dispute over flood damage to farm properties led to the creation of the Independent State of Rainbow Creek in 1979.
The Empire of Atlantium is located in regional New South Wales and has more than 3,000 citizens – almost four times the population of the Vatican City.
An anti-taxation campaigner founded the Grand Duchy of Avram in Western Tasmania in the 1980s; “His Grace the Duke of Avram” was later elected to the Tasmanian Parliament.
In 2004, Dale Anderson sailed to the uninhabited island of Cato east of the Great Barrier Reef. He planted a flag and announced the formation of the Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands to protest the passage of Australian legislation banning same-sex marriage.
In 2017, Emperor Dale dissolved the kingdom following the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Australia.
These are just a few examples of micronations linked to Australia, leading to our country becoming known as the “micronation central” of the world.
There are currently over 30 operating micronations here in Australia.
Maybe we will see Jim actually take this idea seriously if more lockdowns were to emerge.
It would be nice to add “Jimland” to these lists, but it is also nice to see the MSM fall on their faces yet again.
